PAST EVENTS

By the Numbers: The 13th Annual Historic Homes Tour May 20, 2012

Eight great homes / Dozens of volunteers
Hundreds of hours in preparation / Nearly a thousand attendees
One priceless afternoon!
With Thanks and Appreciation to All Who Made it Possible!

July 15, 2010: The Pearl Case Sociehty annual meeting took place in the magical
exhibit of Colin Campbell Cooper’s impressionistic paintings at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.
Harrison Scott reprised his lecture on the Ridge Route to a packed house, Kellam de Forest and the Preservation Committee were honored for their excellent work over the past several years, and Kitty and David Peri served refreshments in the Historical Museum’s romantic Courtyard.
Many thanks to David Bisol, executive director, for the use of the museum.
February 7, 2010: Harrison Irving Scott, author of the The Ridge Route: the Road That United California, presented a slide/lecture at the Santa Barbara Presidio Chapel. Pearl Chase members and guests joined Mr. Scott on a journey back in time when the 95-year-old Ridge Route climbed over mountains and through canyons filled with grapevines between Bakersfield and Los Angeles.
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Scott and others, seventeen and a half miles of this road are now on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Society thanks Dr. Jarrell C. Jackman of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation for the use
of the Chapel.

July 2, 2009: Local historian Kathi Brewster gave a talk on Peter Barber, Santa Barbara’s most prolific architect of Victorian homes and buildings, during the Society’s annual meeting at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum. Kathi’s slide/lecture explained the origins of Barber’s work and displayed several buildings of his design, some of which have been preserved to this day.

Always one to include context with facts, Kathi reminded Society members of the significance of Victorian architecture to the development of Santa Barbara. After the general meeting and lecture, attendees enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and wine in the beautiful Spanish courtyard of the Museum.

December 13, 2009: The grand fireplace of the Friar’s Lounge at the Mission burned brightly and warmed the recently renovated hall for the annual Pearl Chase Society Holiday Party and Chili Fest. The room was bedecked with festive poinsettias, and Jake Jacobus, City Historian, and wife Mari entertained on keyboard and guitar. The Mission Renewal Center staff provided a bounteous array of appetizers, steaming pots of chili enticed diners, and a variety of libations warmed guests on the brisk day. Board member Kitty Peri organized a most delightful event.

December 8, 2009: Society Board Member Maria McCall escorted a group to the Malibu Lagoon Museum and historic Adamson House, which was beautifully decorated for the holidays with original Christmas cards and ornaments adorning the many trees throughout. Participants enjoyed seeing the best surviving examples of decorative ceramic tile produced by Malibu Potteries (1926-32), glimpses of early California life at the museum, and shopping and lunch at Cross Creek Shopping Plaza.
